Sunglasses coatings: Polarised lensesUpdated 6 months ago

When ordering your prescription sunglasses you can choose to have your lenses polarised. Read about what the coating is beneficial for and get more information about why you should add it to your prescription lenses.

What are polarised lenses?
Polarised lenses are specifically designed to reduce glare from surfaces like water, snow, glass, and roads. This makes them an excellent choice for activities like driving, fishing, skiing, and spending time near bodies of water where glare can be particularly harsh.

How do polarised lenses work?
Glare occurs when light reflects off flat surfaces, such as a wet road or a lake. Polarised lenses have a special filter that blocks this intense, reflected light, allowing you to see more clearly and comfortably. Unlike regular tinted sunglasses, which simply darken everything, polarised lenses selectively block the most disruptive light waves.

Benefits of polarised lenses:

  • Reduces glare: Provides clearer vision in bright, reflective conditions.
  • Enhances color and contrast: Improves the vibrancy of colours and sharpness of details.
  • Improves visual comfort: Minimises eye strain caused by intense sunlight.
  • Ideal for outdoor activities: Perfect for driving, boating, skiing, and other outdoor activities where glare can be an issue.
  • Protects against UV rays: Like all our sunglasses, polarised lenses provide full protection from UVA and UVB rays.

When to choose polarised lenses:

  • If you spend time outdoors, especially around water or in bright, sunny conditions.
  • If you’re a driver, they reduce the harsh glare from roads and other vehicles, improving your safety and comfort.
  • If you enjoy outdoor sports, such as fishing, skiing, or hiking, polarised lenses can greatly enhance your visual experience by reducing glare and improving clarity.

Should I choose polarised lenses?
Polarised lenses are ideal for anyone who regularly faces intense sunlight or glare. Whether you're driving, engaging in outdoor sports, or simply spending time outside, these lenses will give you clearer, more comfortable vision. We recommend adding the coating if you're ordering distance glasses and are planning on using them for driving or outdoor.
